East Quogue A-Frame Offers Privacy and Nature for $734K

It may not offer ocean views or bay breezes, but this classic East Quogue A-frame has quickly become one of the most popular homes for sale on Out East. Located at 24 Central Blvd., on 5.5 acres within the Central Pine Barrens — a watershed area that was protected by the Long Island Pine Barrens Protection Act of 1993 — this home is “the highest residential property west of the Shinnecock Canal within the Town of Southampton,” according to the listing. The property has hiking trails, evergreen trees, seasonal azalea bushes, hydrangeas, and white roses, too.

A-frame houses have a notable history out east: Modernist architect Andrew Geller designed one known as the Elizabeth Reese House in Sagaponack in 1957. Following a New York Times feature on that house, a surge of similar designs cropped up all over the Hamptons.

And while this one was built in 1979, many years after Geller pioneered the style, the 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom cottage still remains one-of-a-kind. Within its 1,700 square feet are amenities like a stone gas fireplace, wraparound deck, and floor-to-ceiling windows. Perhaps best of all, the adjacent pool house has an indoor pool, barbecue, stone patio and sliding glass doors throughout. Previously listed for sale in October of 2017 for $754,000, the home has now been relisted for $734,000, a figure well below the East Quogue median of $1.1 million. No wonder it’s so popular.
