We don’t make genuine kings and queens in this country — at least, not officially — but we definitely make homes fit for them. See, for example, this 12-bedroom, 12-bathroom new construction south of the highway in Sagaponack. Sitting on 7.5 acres, and containing virtually every conceivable luxury, it could put a few English castles to shame. Unlike any of those crenelated English edifices, though, this palace comes with absolutely zero centuries’ worth of dust and ghosts. It is empathically brand new and of the moment. And for about 30 million pieces of gold — er, we mean, $29.9 million — it could be yours.
Built by Michael Davis and with interior design by Alexa Hampton, this home is remarkable in part for just how much of it there is: 9,353 interior square feet in total. The kitchen alone is larger than plenty of New York City apartments, and has two sinks, two ovens, dual Sub-Zero refrigerators, and enough counter space to prepare meals for an army. There are multiple living rooms, plus a library. There are front and rear staircases, plus an elevator. Not counting the sprawling master suite, there are 3 ensuite bedrooms upstairs in the main house, 1 more bedroom downstairs, 2 on the lower level, 2 more in the pool house, and 2 in the carriage house. (Hope your highness has friends … who plan to visit!) The requisite game room, media room, wine cellar, and offices (two!) are all here as well.
There’s land. More than 7 acres of it, plus a 250-year-old historic barn that is by far the most vintage thing on the property. Want a tennis court? It’s already got one. The only real upgrade we could envision is a helipad, or, perhaps, an airstrip. Why not a regulation-size football field? A golf course? The home does include a 20-by-60-foot gunite pool (with automatic cover, natch), outdoor kitchen and shower, and multiple outdoor lounging areas. All of which will be great, along with the rest of this sprawling house, for entertaining your highness’ family, friends, acquaintances, associates, doppelgängers, distant relations, and rivals. (There’s gotta be room for that cask of amontillado somewhere, if you’re so inclined.)
Basically, pick a superlative, and it applies to this Sagaponack palace. If you aren’t royalty yet, you’d be a close American version — albeit much newer and shinier than the European article — after moving in here.
