About
Highly involved and well known in her Shelter Island community, Theresa Andrew has strong roots to Shelter Island beginning with her grandparents. Her grandmother came to Shelter Island as a companion to the Lady of Sylvester Manor back in the late 1800’s. Her mother was born and raised on Shelter Island and her father born and raised in Riverhead. Her parents bought a home in Dering Harbor and when her father retired, he brought his family back to Shelter Island to live full time in their home in Dering Harbor. Before moving back, Theresa lived all over the world including being born in Taiwan, China; she is considered “an army brat.” She attended Shelter Island High School and went on to college at St. Michael’s College in Winooski/Burlington, Vermont. Coming home to Shelter Island, made her realize that this is where she wanted to raise her family. In 1996, Theresa’s family moved to Shelter Island to help with her aging parents.
Theresa and her husband owned and operated Shelter Island Self Storage until they sold the property in 2012. Her husband still runs the business.
Respected for her patience, kindness and ability to make a difference by being exposed to so much of the world, Theresa considers herself as a local real estate agent who knows Shelter Island History as well as the Shelter Island of today. She works hard to find people dream homes, informing newcomers of the area's interesting history and offerings, forging strong relationships along the way.
Before becoming a full-time real estate salesperson with Corcoran, Theresa embarked on a 30 year career in the fundraising arena including working for the American Cancer Society as Director of Development and Planned Giving Officer in New Jersey and in New York. She also held the position of Director of Development for St. Gabriel's Spiritual Center for Youth, and as a board member of the Shelter Island Board of Education and former President of the Shelter Island Educational Foundation, which she was instrumental in starting. She now serves as Vice-President of the Shelter Island Chamber of Commerce and still spearheads vital fundraising efforts to help many worthwhile causes on Shelter Island. She truly cares about the wonderful place she's long called home.
Married for 31 years with a son who graduated from Bennington College in Vermont and owner of King Andrew Cheese, Theresa loves to read, cook, entertain friends and travel when time outside of her work and community obligations allows.
